Foregoing the traditional Star Spangled banner, Spinal Tap rehearses the opening song to Obama's convention speech:
Get rid of every policy position except progressive taxation.
I don't agree with it, but I see the appeal of telling people, "we'll take rich people's money and give it to you." If you calculate it just right, 51% of the people can think that they're getting something for nothing.
If Obama had started off with positions exactly like those of John McCain in every other respect, he'd be winning by 20%. Most Americans don't care about any of the other issues. Most Democrats don't either unless they're graduate students, union workers, or trial lawyers, or convinced that they're oppressed.
Let's take a look, shall we?
Health Care:
Nobody wants to pay more for the same thing. That's what Democrats promise, "We're going to raise taxes so that twenty-somethings and illegal aliens can sit next to you in the waiting room."
Gay marriage:
You can ask, "How will same-sex marriage affect yours?" You can also ask, "How will same-sex marriage help your marriage?" It won't unless the lesbian couple next door leaves their shades up. The best leftists can hope for is that the ninety-something per cent of people who like the opposite sex will break down under the constant nagging, "OK, just shut up."
Preschool/ "Education:"
We're talking about helping students in ghettos, let's face it. Most voters are happy with their kids' education. Most people in ghettos would prefer a private school. But, it's easy to scare people on that stuff and, who's going to vote against "education?"
Preschool is the dumbest idea ever. Totally useless in and of itself, it wastes money and discourages the best kind of pre-school, parental care.
Paying for college:
This one sounds good. Like health care, the more the government pays, the higher the cost. I don't know if most people vote on this, anyways.
Foreign Affairs/Crime:
Republicans usually win on this so Democrats would be wise to imitate them here. Most people want to be safe, both locally and globally.
Various programs:
Imagine somebody hears a proposal that starts, "Let's set up a program that..." What comes to their mind? The DMV, the social security office, school administration, forms. Most people dread having to go to a government office.
People who vote for government programs are direct beneficiaries like corn farmers and government workers. The people the programs "help" are probably too lazy to vote since, in most cases, that's why they need help in the first place.
I have to think that a majority of the populace either don't anticipate needing government programs or doubt that it would do any good, considering its track record.
Mommy stuff:
Trans-fats, tire inflation, etc. People who support these measures don't think that it's for them- they want to help others live like themselves, enlightened. Democrats don't mention these things in speeches because it sounds like nagging.
Environmentalism:
This one's like education. People generally support it until it costs them money. That's why Dems are getting drilled on...errr...oil drilling.
God:
Democrats shouldn't mention God unless God is actually a factor in their thinking. Particularly, don't say things like, "I'm a fervent Catholic that doesn't think abortion is wrong." It sounds ignorant. Religious voters aren't stupid. Better to say nothing.
Anyways, I think Democrats would win all of the time if they follow my advice.

I. Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana is a goofball. He reminds me of Tommy Boy.

Tommy Boy (Holy Schnike Edition)
II. 1. I can't help but think that the huge cheers for Hillary hurt Obama.
2. Party unity stuff, as if required. She didn't elaborate on why she supports Obama.
3. Can we stop these, "I won't forget the little girl with nine toes who said, 'Can you start a government program to help people with nine toes?'" statements.
I'd like one Democrat to say, "No, that would be too expensive. Why don't you do it yourself?"
4. OK. This is bad for Barack. She's reminiscing about her campaign- a lot.
5. Generic McCain/Obama attacks.
6. Were you in it for me or to help [list of pathetic Americans]?
7. I know you don't like Barack Obama, but he's the Democrat running this year (due to stupid primary rules).
8. Does the government "give" oil companies profits?
9. Finally, a Barack mention.
10. Defend the working people by... taxing their employers.
11. Just think of what America will be when we create millions of un-needed jobs and spend tax money on energy boondoggles?
12. Michelle will be a great first lady because she knows how to play down her bourgeois anti-Americanism.
13. Do people know what "equal pay" means?
14. If you think giving women the vote was a good idea, vote Democrat.
15. Can Americans "keep going" without government?
16. Oh, by the way, elect Barack Obama!
Benediction: I think it was a smart move having Asian pastors. Does God really care about "diversity?" Otherwise, pretty good.
A very damning ad from American Issues Project- that Obama is trying to remove from the air. Ouch! Direct hit.
Then Obama's response. Yes, because if McCain was hanging around a pastor like Hagee, or around lobbyists (like Biden's son), Obama wouldn't say anything.
"Obama is questioning McCain's fundraiser at Timothy McVeigh's house. Why is Obama bringing something up from the early nineties?"
Besides, Obama hung around Ayers in the nineties not when he was eight years old.

Rachel Maddow:
The following video shows Rachel Maddow criticizing McCain for bringing up the POW story when asked about the number of houses he owns. Some thoughts:
1. Rachel says this at a convention where Michelle Obama wants us to feel sorry for her because she only makes $300,000 a year and Barack gave up a corporate career to run for president. The whole Democratic convention is one weep-fest.
2. How else can McCain answer such a stupid charge? How many homes does Hillary Clinton own? John Kerry? It's the dumbest thing I've heard so far this year.

I didn't see the whole thing, but:
1. Ted Kennedy said that he looks forward to when health care is a "fundamental right and not just a privilege." OK, to be "fundamental," it has to be a "founding" (from Latin, right?) or primary right. If it's a "fundamental right." why wasn't it there from the time of the founding fathers?
2. Health Care isn't a privilege. I don't have to get permission to receive health care. I pay for it, and I get it. Is food a "privilege" now?
3. Pundits must think people are idiots. On PBS, one of them said that Obama's little girls would get him six million votes because they're "cute." Are people that dumb to fall for some staged questions from two little girls? That doesn't tell us anything about Obama except that he has cute kids.
4. If having cute kids is a good thing, is having no kids worse? Would Obama highlight his family if he were in a gay marriage?
